Fnav is a file browser. Your files stay on your Mac. This page lists everything the app and this website send or store, and nothing else is collected.
What the app sends
- Install ping. Once a day when online: a random install id made on your Mac (not a hardware id), the edition, the app version and the macOS version. Our server notes the country that Cloudflare attaches to the request. It never stores your IP address.
- License check, Full edition only. Your account, a one way hash of your Mac's hardware id so a license can count its three Macs, the Mac's name and model, and the app and macOS versions.
- Settings sync, only if you sign in and turn it on. Your settings, theme, shortcuts, and the names of folders you have pinned or configured.
- Bug reports, only when you send one. Your description, your email if you add it, the app and macOS versions, and the last 500 lines of the app log with your home folder replaced by ~.
What the app never sends
File names, file contents, folder listings and thumbnails. Fnav uses no analytics service and no crash reporting service.
This website
- When you sign in, the site keeps one session cookie. Nothing else is stored in your browser.
- Visits are counted with Umami, which runs on our own server, sets no cookies and does not follow you to other sites.
Payments
Dodo Payments is the merchant of record for the Full edition. They handle your card and your invoice, and Fnav never sees your card number. Mac App Store purchases go through Apple.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from the account page. This deletes your sync data, devices and sessions. The license record is kept for accounting, with your email replaced by a one way hash.
